Evaluation of ColdZyme Mouth Spray for the Protection against Common Cold in Elite Athletes to Reduce Unwanted Absence from Training and Competition
This study evaluated the protective effect of ColdZyme on common cold infections in elite athletes from three different sports (biathlon, ice-hockey and handball), and assessed the level of reduction in corresponding sick days.
Method of administration:
ColdZyme was self-administered by the elite athletes according to the products instruction for use; Preventive use when suspected of being exposed to viruses (e.g. when traveling), and treatment at first symptoms, to shorten the cold.
Self-reporting for quality of life and symptoms of common colds, as well as absence from exercise and competition reported by team coaches.

The use of ColdZyme has been of great importance to my training as a biathlonist. Before I started using ColdZyme, I could have up to 30 to 40 sick days per season compared to 3-5 days, now after I started using ColdZyme.

Reduced number of sick-days
The study results show that the average number of sick days per athlete and month when using ColdZyme significantly declined, by 51 percent for the biathlon skiers (p=0.04), and 67 percent for the hockey players (p=0.02), compared with the control periods when ColdZyme was not used. The handball players lacked historical data for untreated periods, so no control could be made against coldzyme.
The athletes in the study who became infected reported milder symptoms and significant improvement in quality of life (for example, improved sleep and performance) compared with common cold sufferers not treated with ColdZyme. Nine of 11 biathlon skiers reported that they felt better or much better when using ColdZyme and that they had milder or much milder cold symptoms. The handball players reported similar results, where 75 percent responded that when using ColdZyme the cold was so mild that it had little or no effect on quality of life.
The prospective observational studies, controlled against historical data, by elite athletes showed that the use of ColdZyme against common colds reduced the number of days of sickness by more than > 50%. Using ColdZyme can be an easy and practical way for elite athletes to protect themselves from common colds and prevent lost training and competition days.
